The Legend of Theseus
Theseus was king of Athens during the Trojan War, but he wasn't mentioned that often by Homer. He ended up at the island of Skyros in the Aegean, hoping that he would find hospitality from the king there. Instead, the king led him to a cliff on the island, as if to show him the survey of his land,. But don't worry, his reputation far surpassed his ignoble death. Theseus' many exploits were enshrined in later Athenian art and literature.
