Moore himself was an early victim when a shell hit the bridge, leaving it qt a shambles of dead bodies. The americans and australians lose four cruisers and over a thousand lives. The japanese losses are negligible. This is considered to be, by many, the worst defeat in the history of the united states navy in a fair fight.
