"I think being alone is actually a crucial part of this, because if you fear being alone to a great degree, you're driven into the arms of whoever's around," Demetrius says. "If I do not have a friend that is worth spending my time right now, then I'd rather go to a book and read a classic and have a dialogue with this author." He adds: "This is the way I've always thought about engaging with good literature and good philosophy".
