U2's Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday refers to events that took place in London Derry on the 30th of January 1972. 15,000 people were protesting peacefully against a recently adopted law which meant people could be detained or imprisoned without trial. Despite being banned, the march went ahead, policed by British Army troops. Confrontations broke out when some protesters pelted the soldiers with stones,. The troops responded by firing a water cannon and rubber bullets. Violence escalated, and around 70 minutes after the start of the march, some of the troops started firing live rounds into the crowd. 13 people were killed, with the 14th victims succumbing to his injuries six months later. 11 years later, U2 released Sunday
