Empowering Diversity in Shark Research

This chapter chronicles a young Black graduate student's transformative journey in shark research, highlighting her creation of the nonprofit Minorities in Shark Sciences to foster community and representation. It discusses the challenges she faced in academia, including overwhelm and burnout, and how advocacy led to a more inclusive scientific culture. The narrative explores the ecological significance of sharks, dispelling myths and emphasizing the need for conservation and changing public perspectives on these vital marine creatures.
