In English, and pretty much all languages, some languages don't even allow consonant clusters. When we create new words, they tend to have consonant vowel syllables rather than consonant consonant consonants. The difference between these two groups is social. One has more to gain by holding on to this artificial preservation of consonant clustering,. while less standard speakers don't have that same reward for doing it.
