Keeping the Darkness Away

The first state prison in West Virginia was built on top of a massive Native American burial ground. The original prison was designed to look very similar to the Illinois State Prison in Joliet, although the Moundsville structure was only half that size. Yes, the building was meant to keep people in, but the designers also hoped that the mere sign of it would keep wood-beak criminals out by intimidating them. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
