The Importance of Non-Opioid Adjuncts

The strong recommendation that we made was that opiates should be used as the first line analgesic in PICU patients. The guidelines address the use of various non-pharmacologic adjuncts or interventions that can further aid in pain control. We were not able to extend these recommendations to patients admitted with medical diseases, although that would be an interesting topic for further study.
