What Is a Question of Law?

A question of law is a dispute over whether something actually happened. A question of fact is, once we've established that Thomas has hit me, does this sufficiently constitute assault? And the reason that it's important is at the moment that there are no remaining questions of fact, then either party can move for summary judgment and say, look, there's nothing left for a jury to decide.
