The Practice of Necromancy in Deuteronomy
The Israelites were not to inquire of human or non-human spirits for their supernatural information. Instead, the practice that's being rejected in Deuteronomy has classically been called necromancy. Necross means a dead person or a dead body, and Mantaya means a prophecy or an oracle.
