The Risks of Doing a PhD Research
To me, a PhD is a lot safer than the industry. It can lead nowhere if I don't find anything interesting or it doesn't succeed but still I'm getting paid a little while doing that. So it's relatively safe compared to a startup where everything could fail and you could just lose your job. But there are risks being on PhD salary for long periods of time. Being in the industry keeps you connected to what's really going on. The outcome is not a paper and not a POC, it's something that's being used by possibly millions of people.
