The Immigrant Crisis in the United States
90% of immigrants arriving in the united states in the mid nineteenth century are heading directly for mid western cities. By 18 61, third of wisconsin's population, for example, was foreign born. The influx of irish immigrants in the 18 forties and 18 fifties really alarmed many native born americans. Historians call those people who feared the impact of emmigration on the political and social life, they called them nativists.
