In order to become an antreprenur and maintain that freedom, you need to question this growth in all areas for all reasons. Having this staying small as an end goal is something that a lot of people aren't necessarily going to consider unless they hear it from somebody who's got experience like you do. What if i wanted to find my own version of success? And what if i want to move towards that, instead of moving towards a version of success i don't actually want? Because one of two things will happen in that case, i'm either going to achieve it, or i'll feel like a failure for not achieving it at the first place.
