Plants don't have emotions like humans, but they do feel pain when their tissue is damaged. When plants are attacked by insects or by diseases, they defend themselves by making more a special chemistry. There's a wholeworld of chemical communication at a level that we can't smell. And then that odor we smell from we smell is actually the plant's alarm calls gees. That gives a whole new meaning to the smell of freshly cut grass. But blades of grass aren't actually screaming when you cut them.
