The September 7 Assault on London
Hitler ordered the bombing of London, hoping that this would draw British fighters up into the air where they could be destroyed. The September 7 assault consists of two huge waves: 600 bombers and 400 fighters attacked London's east end. Over 650 people are killed on that day, of which almost a quarter are children. But this is only the beginning; London will come under bombardment for 56 out of the next 57 days.
