The Different Use Cases for Bitcoin
The most common parallel that you hear is to gold, since Bitcoin is often referred to as digital gold. There's a decent chunk of investors that think gold has real merit and that it functions as a store of value in a portfolio diversifier. I don't think it's any different with Bitcoin. Whether we're talking about Bitcoin or gold or pretty much any currency store value, including the US dollar, it's all based on trust.
