The Thermic Effect of Food
There are a few quirks of human physiology that prevent all the calories we eat from being stored as body fat. And this partially explains why the after math of over eating isn't as severe as we sometimes think or expect. The main factors in play here are the calories burned during the digestion of food, the storing of some macro nutrients as fat more easily than others and the increase in physical activity which can occur when you eat more. You don't necessarily absorb every calory you eat.
