The Importance of Carbohydrates in Exercise Training

Carbohydrates are always going to be more efficient in terms of ATP per liter of oxygen, always. But it's maybe how we turn on carbohydrates to a lesser degree that becomes important with training. The principle then is if we break down energy in the cell, that's that unit of ATP. So we break that down to a product called ADP and at the same time, we produce our force. That ADP turns on a lot of rate limiting enzymes in carbohydrate metabolism. And that pushes substrates into the mitochondria that then inhibit fat oxidation.
