i think one of the most important things when it comes toj standing out is realizing that this isn't an instant process. Most artists emerge later in life as part of an iterative process, because they have to try a lot of things in order to really learn what their unique contribution is. And we shouldn't get discouraged if it takes a while for the ideas to spread. It took me between two and three years of blogging all the time before i started getting inquiries about speaking engagements.
