Tulip mania is considered a warning about the perils of speculative excess. Bernard Baroque credited lessons he learned from reading the book with his decision to sell all of his stock ahead of the Wall Street crash of 1929. The popular press cites McKay whenever there's a concern about a new financial bubble. Michael Lewis included sections of the book among his six classics of economics that everyone should read.
