The Tallahasse Tribe and the Civil War
When the civil war broke out, indian territory was still technically sovereign and independent from the united states. Both sides were concerned to see if they could get support or allies from the indian nations. Different tribes took different sides based on which side they thought was more likely to win. And tallahasse sided with the north or the union. The talahasse also had very few slaves as compared to other tribes. If your tribe's economy was more entwined in slavery, you were more likely to want a confederate victory.
