When i was a shadow minister for health one story made a difference to public policy. I met with a family and they told me the story of their young child who had only just survived after having new maccocle. That story put pressure on the then government to fund this vaccine as experts had said that it should have been funded. Within a week of bella's story firing community imaginations the government did what it ought to have done at the start which was funded the recommended vaccine so yes story telling individual experiences married with the other sources of evidence and data can make a huge change to public policy, says Tony Abbott.
