There's something in the book for everyone. There's unarmed combat, cryptography, chess, sufism and poetry. And if you're a man or woman enough to soldier on through to the last part, then lots of things happen - there's a major denouement. The book does take you sort of around the world and there's quite a lot of major themes. I was attracted to the very unlikely spy branch that was the SOE because it was thrown together very quickly in 1940. It included barristers, actors, musicians, cryptographers, racing drivers, burglars, forges and safe breakers. Sounds a bit like my chambers, but these stories are quite extraordinary
