Vallin quin was a black restaurant owner in Mississippi during the civil rights era. She worked with people who were part of this boot legging, both white and black,. And so that also gave her a sense of power because she's responsible for a number of people's livelihoods. The state could further control and oppress people like alen, particularly black restaurant owners. They often ticketed her for having illegal liquor.
