Turn Negativity on Its Head
If you are getting disproportionately upset or your response to a stimulus is disproportionate, that's probably a sign that you're focusing too much on the negative. If I have found myself thinking about past negative experiences or projecting a future negative experience that hasn't even happened out into the world, aka worry or have anxiety about something, this is a sign that I am doing something that is not helpful. And it's in this awareness, again, the goal of step one is becoming aware. Once you become aware, now you are in a position to do something about it.
