Jeremy says he didn't come out to his family until he was 21 in New York City. The sad truth about that is for a lot of queer individuals and for myself a black queer man most of your life you spend hiding pieces of yourself of yourself to survive. French's character was able to provide healing for other characters like Ismael  in the film. Jeremy: "I walked out of this film feeling stronger and feeling more competent in my black and in my queer"
