Is There a New Way of Interpreting?
The title of the essay feels a little bit disingenuous from what she says against interpretation. She's explicit about it that there has to be a new way of interpreting, and I think we quoted part of that. Even if you have an experience of art that is magical, it's a religious ritual, it has a meaning. It is at once an aesthetic experience and something that has a definite non-aesthetic meaning. So even right there, it seems obvious that a purely interpretationless experience is not going to be possible.
