The pushing itself is essentially like an auto-transfusion of blood. Adding quick volume to the circulation can cause problems in people with compromised heart. Jason: It's very rarely that we tell the patient that she can't push, because there are times when a patient may be an amazing pusher and then she might push her baby out in five minutes. And I think what this emphasizes again is the importance of communication.
