Girard's Theory of Cannibalism, Headhunting, and Human Sacrifice
There is a tendency today to doubt all evidence of such things as cannibalism, headhunting, or human sacrifice. Here too, Girard's theory offers a bold challenge. He says many would rather look away from the violence against which sacrifice was humanity's first line of defense. There remains a lot of resistance to his ideas, partly because big theories are out of fashion and he has crashed the boundaries of too many academic disciplines.
