Introduction
Karl Poppa follows in a long lineage of analytic philosophy stretching back to ancient Greece. The idea that knowledge is conjectural stretches back perhaps to Xenophanes, who lived around 570 to 478 BC. He seems to have been one of the first to drive a wedge between true belief and knowledge. His epistemology takes this idea of knowledge being a woven web of guesses very seriously.
