The Sign-Out American Relationship

The two countries had a period of hostility that lasted two decades. For the most part, ordinary Americans and ordinary Chinese had almost no contact with one another whatsoever before the 1970s. There were a small number of Americans who chose to continue living in China or even migrated to China in the 1950s or 1960s. These were people with very strong political persuasions who were drawn to Maoism.
