The Effects of Covid on Primary Teacher Education
I think we need to put more emphasis on the ability to specialize in subject. I get two hours with the primary student teachers on our programs to give them an introduction to drama education and you can imagine what I'm able to do in those two hours it's not a lot. We also need to build capacity within initial teacher education to make sure that if students on the primary phase want to specialize there's opportunity to work with experts to do that. It has to come through really good materials that tells the non-specialist how to teach that well. As we see the effect of Covid in my school particularly we're seeing it vastly different in terms of pupils reading age 16 in one year
