Hyperspectral vs Multispectral

The MapScaping Podcast - GIS, Geospatial, Remote Sensing, earth observation and digital geography

CHAPTER

The Pros and Cons of Hyperspectral Sensors

hyperspectral sensors often will use larger pixel sizes and they basically are making a bigger bucket to collect light that way. But of course, when you're increasing the size of your pixels, that decreases their spatial resolution. There's also another issue, which is called the Hughes phenomenon, which is also called the curse of dimensionality. So if you've got an application where maybe the spatial detail from your image is more important than that spectral detail, you probably be better off using multispectral data.
