I would generally say be prepared. This is especially useful if you are planning to play with the same group routinely. If you're just doing like a one off, it is harder to accomplish these things. My best advice for you is to try to also find other groups to play with. There's actually a really great thread, thread on board game. Where they are trying to keep track of all rules, clarifications that like developers or play testers have been given. And being able to consult that kind of stuff is very helpful because even when you feel like you understand this game, probably there's still something missing. Right? Just accept that maybe you got the ruling wrong and always be prepared
