Are Refugees Assimilate the Fastest?
In the book i'm quoting you, the immigrant groups most accused of unwillingness to assimilate southern and eastern europeans in the past, mexicans, to day, actually tended to assimilate the fastest. So that's another kind of fear that's dispelled. Though it also makes me wonder if maybe the reason for that very quick assimilation is precisely because these immigrants know that the native born population is most concerned about them. It could be very much a defensive posture. I don't want my kids to lose out on job opportunities, so i'll do everything i can do to try to help them fit in.
