Isabella, the Daughter of the Fair King

In 1330, Isabella deposed her husband and replaced him with an adulterous lover. Her son Edward III hanged the man for treason; she was barely mentioned in his trial. She instigated the first parliamentary deposition of a king which set a precedence that would be followed by five more kings over 300 years. In 1591, Shakespeare would coin the term She-Wolf of France to describe Henry IV's wife, Margaret of Anjou.
