The Pakistani View on Afghanistan
Pakistani officials recognize that if the US and NATO had truly succeeded, then perhaps Pakistan would have benefited. But I think they didn't expect that the endeavor in Afghanistan to set up a new democratic government actually would succeed. They probably had some doubts that such a government would be as friendly to Pakistani interests as they would hope. It's a matter of some debate where exactly Pakistani views lie, but it's somewhere on that spectrum.
