There are currently something like 5,000 active satellites in low earth orbit. That's more than doubled in the last three or four years. There is a military dimension to that, which is driving the design and implementation of those networks. We've got space as the new site for superpower conflict and an extension of geopolitics. And then you also have the rhetoric of SpaceX, or maybe it's the rhetoric of Musk himself - this is a sort of civilization saving into planetary mission because there has to be a planet B because we're screwing up this one.
