The Sons of Caverus

Cash's Dio relates the absurdity of the plot by saying Plataianus would never have dared to impose such a bidding upon ten centurions at once. But Caverus, already stewing over his brother's words, was in a mood to believe the worst of his former favorite. When he finally became sole Emperor in late 211, Caracalla made good on the promise he had made and ordered all of them, especially his hated ex-wife, strangled to death. The likelihood that anyone would be able to stand between the sons of Caverus and their birthright was almost non-existent.
