The Destruction of Babylon Is the Very End of the Meeds
In the Book of Daniel it's Darius the Mede that takes over Babylon. This was a Persian Empire led by Cyrus the Great who had already taken over the Median Empire, an empire to Babylon's north. Pilemic against idols are an important trope within the prophets in the context of such promises of redemption. Such deliverances which fulfill the promises and the predictions of the Lord are a means by which he demonstrates his character or power.
