The Importance of Percussion in Latin Salsa

The East Coast Latin salsa scene was different than the West Coast. Tito Puente would allow us to not basically pay attention to that clave because we weren't taught that and just play openly. We didn't grow up playing that way for the West Coast we played around that it was more free so it was Latin jazz so it was more jazz oriented than Latin but those two different those rhythms were different.
