Under president trump, it has even become questionable to what extent the us remains com ted to this rules based order. The crisis in ukraine and its fall out have stoked fears over a new cold war. Many observers foresee a return to geo politics. Both are traditional geo political strategies that were already on the table during the cold war - both are problematic for europe.
