How to Save Money on a Roommate

I'm 27 and I've been trying to save money. So I got a spot with my homie The problem is the motherfucker is messy and considerate and bad with money didn't know that at the time. He eats up all all of my groceries after I tell him not to and there's been four times He's been short on rent by a lot. Should I suck it up for another year to save money? Also, how did y'all approach shitty roommates especially if they were your friends are for the long question?
