"I've never told how I grew up. It wasn't out of shame or anything, but I think it's always been private for me," he says. "All I wanted to do as a kid growing up was protect my family ... and so much of what I've learned in my life has been what not to do by example of my father" He adds: "When I think about where I came from, it seems like a big accident."
