The Road Between Shanghai and Xinjiang

Shanghai's Ulu Moo Chi Middle Road is a road that was developed during Shanghai's golden age in the 1930s. It got its name because after the Communist victory in 1949, its name was changed from Rue de Far to ULU Moo Chi Road. A lot of people in Shanghai have family who came from or live in Xinjiang and in the capital city of Urum Chi. In the mid 1960s, about 100,000 young Shanghai knees were sent to Xinjiang as part of Mao Zedong's down to the countryside movement.
