The Importance of Rare Earths in the DRC
The DRC has a history of foreign imperialists, many from Europe, chewing up its territory for fabulously valuable commodities. Ordinary congliers often intrude onto the sites of the big mines to essentially go mine the cobalt for themselves. China doesn't want to sell the metal, China wants to sell the finished product with the high value at a price with the metal inside. If we haven't twigged already the summer of 2022 should have made it pretty clear that not a single inhabited continent has avoided raging wildfars, drought and floods. The impact of climate change is upon us so we almost certainly need these critical raw materials. But how do we go about mining them
