How Do You Develop From a Beginner to an Expert?
The British chess champion was a PhD student of mine a little while ago so I know a wee bit about chess. We develop by progression we grow through what the philosopher Karl Popper calls conjectures and refutations, he says. The learning is good old fashioned trial and error but you need to be involved in the trialing and the erroring in order to make your way along that journey from naive novice to expert.
