Japan and Russia Are Holding Exercises in the Sea of Japan
Japans government has been quite strident in its criticism of the russian drills at vostoke manoeuvres. Japan's complain is that their being held on islands that japan traings as its own. These were seized by soviet forces in 19 forty five, at the end of the war,. So this has been a running sore between the two governments ever since. And it has actually stopped the two governments from ever signing a formal peace treaty to end the second world war.
