The palatial period is a superstructure that's built on top of village societies. You have the palaces are introduced, the palaces go away and you go back to being a village society. Not without changes, but there really is a lot of long-term continuity. We focus on change because we think that that's what needs to be explained, but so does continuity. And we should understand those as well.
