Short Cuts and Calculus

When i think about the work that you do in mathematics and the many people who've come before you for centuries, creating a language of short cuts. It's basically resulted in the fact that i don't personally need to know any math at all to do quite well in life. And therefore, also, there's no incentive for me to engage in your dark art of mathematicsa had. Do you see it as a case where short cutting has gone too far? "It's actually really useful to know the power of mathematics as a tool"
